Calling Upon the Unconscious

The unconscious mind is a treasure trove of resources waiting to be called upon, whether it is for creating art, healing or simply living one’s life harmoniously. Hypnosis is profound inner work using the natural wisdom of the creative unconscious.

It is important to understand that hypnosis is a collaborative process, and that its success depends greatly on the client’s participation and desire to affect change in her or himself. When clients come with a specific change in mind, hypnosis usually entails three sessions of 90 minutes:

Session I
My client and I use this time to become acquainted, and to examine the change the client wishes to create. In some cases, we explore adjustments to the client’s goal in order to maximize the client’s chances for success with his or her intention. I answer any questions the client has about hypnosis to ensure he or she enters the process with both confidence and joy. I also teach basic self-hypnosis techniques as well as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for the client to use as support in between sessions and to prepare for the hypnotic trance induction of Session II.

Session II
Prior to this session, I prepare a deep trance induction for the client, which will last about one hour. Before the induction begins, I provide instruction for the client to gently and safely exit the trance at any time, and also re-enter the trance space just as easily. After the induction, we practice self-hypnosis techniques and EFT, if appropriate.

Session III
We invest time in grounding the work, reinforcing certain aspects, and processing and integrating some of what may have emerged.  After this session, I record a shortened version of the trance, about eight minutes long, that clients can listen to for added support in between sessions and thereafter.

Please note that hypnosis does not constitute psychiatric treatment, psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. When a request for hypnosis is of a medical nature, a written referral from a licensed physician must be provided.
